Chassis

Once the body was finished and out of the way being painted, we made the most of the increased space in the garage to work on the chassis!

This picture shows the state of the floor pans.  The nearside had been replaced at some point, and had only surface rust. It cleaned up fine.  The offside however was much worse - in fact the seat runner broke through the pan the first time we tried the seat in position, prior to this photo.

We drilled out all the spot welds along the centre tunnel, and cut the seam welds at the ends, and after some struggling, the old pan popped out! (right)

After grinding down the remains of the spot welds, the chassis was ready for the new floor pan.

New components were fitted throughout the braking system, right. This also shows the steering components fitted to the new (well, second-hand) front beam.  A new one was bought, as the one on the car when I got it had lowering adjusters welded in and I wanted standard height.

The 1192cc engine built up on the bench at the back of the garage. Most of the ancillaries were sourced second-hand, except the exhaust box. Quite a few of the tin-ware pieces were new, though. The only alteration at this stage was the ubiquitous Bosch Blue Coil.
