I had been commuting about five miles into Oxford to get to university in the Bug for a month or so when I got fed up of the wasted time, traffic and hopeless fuel economy. I scanned the local paper and found this 1985 Honda CB125. I did my Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) to allow me to ride it with L-plates, got myself and helmet and jacket, and away I went. My journey time halved, along with my fuel bills, and I could park on campus!
The CB125 is a four-stroke parallel twin - I decided early on that I didn’t want a screaming two-stroke. Not a pretty bike, but cheap and reliable, and at least it had a disc brake up front!
I did not expect to get so hooked on two-wheels, but soon enough I was looking at doing my test so I could get a bigger bike! In the six months that I had it, I spent £30 on road tax and and MoT, then sold it on for £30 more than I paid for it.
